Happy Birthday pictable

It was an honor and privilege to be asked back to the Illinois Youth Encounter to share the ministry. It was at this event the prior the that the pictable was first presented. I thank Charles Cambell for the chance to not only come again to the YE but once again for being the catalyst for starting the ministry.

This year we were going to do more than just create separate pieces of artwork during each session. He wanted to integrate the art into the whole experience. So we added more artists. I would help direct all of them. Two students would help me paint one of the two pictables during each session. Whitney and Greg would help present the double dose of art during worship time. Then Charles hooked me up with a graffiti artist named Tim who would add yet another art element. We were going to be using all of the artwork created during the YE to create one image at the end. This event started out with a great idea and lots of excitement.

Planning started months in advance with meetings, phone calls, emails and lots of sketching. When the dust settled, we came up with a good concept. Each piece would come together to form Jesus presenting the graffiti mural. It was a huge step up from the year before.

When the YE started, I was very anxious and nervous. This was my first time overseeing multiple artists and they were doing different types of artwork. God used all of us and created an awesome worship experience over the course of two days. Each session worked out well and the whole piece came together brilliantly.

Joel Engle and band provided the awesome worship for the sessions as the paintings created the backdrop

Todd painting the Flaming Hand during the first session.

Greg is painting the Christ Hand with an image of Todd painting City on the Hill being projected on the screen over his head during the second session.

The Christ Eye is hand painted during the third session.

Whitney and Greg collaborate on the Reaching Hands pictable. As challenging as it may seem to paint on the same canvas at the same time as someone else, they pulled it off beautifully.

The final piece as seen after the final session.

Tim and his cohort in art, Jeremy, created the graffiti mural in between the sessions to help add another art element as students were in the Extreme Room. They too exceeded my expectations with their work.
