When Jesus assembled his disciples, He called on men of that time. This included many fisherman. When He spoke to the people of that day trying to communicate difficult concepts, He used parables geared to their knowledge base. He spoke of farmer to farmers, money to tax collectors and fishing to fishers. He told the men who would become His disciples to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. Men are not fish. You don’t catch a man like you do a fish. They didn’t fully understand what He meant but it was enough to find out more. Jesus would prepare those disciples to reach out, share and preach to the world. In effect, He would show them how to “fish.”
As Christians, we are called to go fish for the lost. We are to reach out, share and preach to the world. |
