The face of Christ is one of the most recognized images in all
of history, but it was Jesus’ life and sacrifice that changed the course of humanity.
Our lives are full of selfish desires. Our insistence on following our own ways is called sin, and it separates us from our Creator. God desires an intimate relationship with His greatest creation, but the sins in our lives created an impassable barrier. Our sin could not be in the presence of God’s holiness. Something had to change.
Jesus was sent to the scene to reconnect us with God. He was born of a virgin and fulfilled many prophecies. During His life, He taught love and obedience. One loose end still needed to be taken care of. Our sin needed to be addressed. To cleanse the sins in our lives, a pure and blameless sacrifice was needed. Only Jesus, who was fully God and fully man fit the requirement. Although He was falsely accused, harassed and charged with crimes that He did not commit, He willingly gave His life for us. His punishment would take Him down a painful path of torture. They beat him until his blood flowed like a river. Then they nailed Him to a cross and left Him to die. Fortunately for us, that is not the end of the story. After three days in the grave, Jesus arose from the dead. And He lives today!
To truly understand this sacrifice that Jesus made, we must look into His eyes. We must see that His love for us allowed Himself to be put on the cross. We must see the tears flowing from His eyes and the blood running down His face. We must see His pain. We must see His hurt. He gave His life to pay for our sins. What have you done for Him?
Even though we have sin in our lives, we still have the chance to have a relationship with Jesus. His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins and opened the way to Him. If you want to know Him better, you must believe in Him, confess your sins and ask Him into your heart. This is just the beginning of a great relationship with the One who changed the world! |
